Search Underway for Arrestee Who Escaped from Southern Maryland Hospital Center

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – The Prince George’s County Police Department is actively searching for 54-year-old Byron Matthews who has a 2011 fugitive warrant for distribution of marijuana in Pennsylvania. On August 11, 2015, at approximately 3:25 pm, a Prince George’s County Police Officer arrested the suspect during a traffic stop. The suspect’s last known address is Crittenden Street in Northeast Washington.
Following his arrest, Matthews was taken to the Department of Corrections for processing. Minutes after the arresting PGPD officer left the Department of Corrections, the suspect began complaining of chest pains. He was evaluated by the Department of Corrections medical staff who advised that the suspect should be taken for an evaluation at a hospital. He was taken to Southern Maryland Hospital. While there, he escaped from supervision.
